DJ public liability insurance
Public liability insurance is essential for DJs as it protects them against any third party claims for injury or damage to people or their property. DJguard has been created to provide DJs with public liability insurance as well as providing equipment cover.
Public liability for DJs
DJ equipment is expensive and during a live set, DJs need to be covered so that any potential risks and hazards to the public are covered. If your actions or equipment cause injury to a person then they would be able to claim compensation against you. Public liability insurance covers you against such hazards. Say for example, your record case/bag drops and hits a person on their foot, you would be liable for any compensation that person sought.
DJguard covers against theft, loss and accidental cover up to £250,000 and offers a standard £2 million public liability cover which you can upgrade to £5 million. DJguard also gives you the option of extending your liability cover to your work associates who can also take the standard £2 million public liability cover or they can chose to increase the cover to £5 million. Personal accident cover is also included, so if a person injures him/herself whilst using your equipment you will be covered up to £10,000 for death and £5,000 for loss of limb or eye.
Why have public liability
Playing a live set in a venue with people around could be extremely dangerous, many venues don't allow DJs/musicians to play unless they have public liability. If you cause damage to property or individuals then you may end up being liable for the costs. Many venues will ask to you to produce evidence that you do have public liability insurance and that you are covered in case of any negligence, in some cases you may be turned away if you don't have public liability insurance.
